ROMAN VOLODCHENKOV
Ballet scholar, ballet critic, teacher. PhD in Art History, member of the Union of Theatre Workers of the Russian Federation.
He began publishing in 2003 as a freelance contributor to Ballet magazine. He has contributed to the periodicals Liniya (a supplement to Ballet magazine), Sozvezdie, Musical Life, Literaturnaya Gazeta, Svezhaya Gazeta. Culture (Samara), TEATREL (Yoshkar-Ola), Musical Magazine, and the online media Musical Seasons.
From 2008 to 2009, he was the head of the literary department at the Kremlin Ballet Theatre of the State Kremlin Palace. He has authored and compiled books about ballet personas. Teaches the history of choreographic art and theatre history: from 2008 to 2012 – at the Natalia Nesterova Moscow Academy of Education; since 2017 – at the School of Classical Dance; since 2019 – at the L.M. Lavrovsky Moscow State Choreographic School and the G.P. Vishnevskaya College of Musical and Theatre Art; since 2020 – at the Institute of Contemporary Art.
Presenter at events dedicated to outstanding ballet dancers. As a ballet critic, he worked for a press centre of the Moscow International Competition of Ballet Dancers and Choreographers (2005, 2009, 2017).
